Waking up at the ungodly hour of 3am to meet the band at 4am and get to the airport by 5am ran a lot more smoothly than I thought. Luckily only 4 of us were leaving from Carnegie. Chirpy (Shane Lohoar) our drummer lived closer to the airport and took an Uber.
The band was Rod and I plus Bruce on bass, plus we took along Andrew Royal who used to be in a band with Bruce called Jonestown. Jonestown also used to be on the Swerve label. (Check out their album "Head First..." it's great!) We took along Andrew (Choc) as a kind of replacement/ reserve (I won’t go into details here) merch guy and sound guy. He’d end up joining the band on stage every night. Without Choc there I think we would have had a lot of problems so it worked out well.
Getting on the plane at Tullamarine was hilarious just to see how much stuff they could confiscate off Choc. Shampoo, nail scissors, deodorant ..all in the bin.
The plane was delayed at Brisbane but nothing could dampen our excitement. It seems they had to change planes and were moving all the catering across. Plane delays never worry me. Technical issues. Please fix them before I get on board. Take your time. And getting on the plane it was great to see it was half empty. So we stretched out and enjoyed the ride.

Watched a brilliant film called “Death Of Stalin”. Made by the same people who did “The Thick Of IT” and “In The Loop”. Hilarious. The plane trip was smooth and over quickly.
Travelling sure sucks up time. Arriving in Japan at about 5;30pm we didn’t get to our Air B’n’B in Hetagaya until around 9pm. Where did the time go? First thing I bought was , to quote Oasis, cigarettes and alcohol. Where a bottle of whisky is 13 bucks and cigarettes are less than 5 bucks, hell why not?
The area we were staying in was quiet and quite charming really. I don’t know how we ended up there. But we were all a bit tired from the trip and after unloading our gear and claiming our beds we walked about 30 meters to a Ramen Restaurant where we ate well and drank well before walking the short distance back to our one room we all shared. It was advertised as having a table tennis table but it was packed away when we got there. Luckily the room was quite spacious and we managed to get to sleep quickly. We didn’t have a show until Friday and tomorrow was a bit of shopping and sightseeing.
